Past, Present and Future Initiative
For more than four decades the Leon H. Sullivan CDC has sponsored social, educational and athletic activities for citizens of all from the community-at-large. Activities sponsored by the Center included Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sewing clubs, track teams, a basketball league and the first African-American Baseball Little League. In addition to Senior Citizen activities, the Center has sponsored tutoring programs and after-school programs in collaboration with five (5) neighboring elementary, Junior High and High Schools. The Center has also offered the PEP College and Career Guidance Counseling, Demonstration Primary School for grades K-3, a Young Entrepreneurs Program, a Junior Golf Education Program and the Zion Basketball League. Renowned athletes such as Dawn Staley, Aaron McKie and Keith Johnson are products of the Zion Basketball League.
Under the leadership of a committed Board of Directors the Leon H. Sullivan CDC, Inc. has initiated a “Stay in the Loop Girl’s Fitness Program” for ages 9 to 17 years. A “Fit for Life” – Moderate to High Cardiovascular Fitness Program. Under a three year partnership with NASA, Leon H. Sullivan CDC was selected to launch a NASA Astronomy Program for urban youth.Leon H. Sullivan CDC, Inc. is a 501 C (3) non-profit organization.
